Gentle Touch for Babies to Flourish

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IAIM Baby Massage?

IAIM stands for the International Association of Infant Massage. IAIM baby massage classes gently guide parents and caregivers in learning how to massage their baby using a nurturing, respectful, and evidence-informed approach. The classes are designed to support bonding, relaxation, communication, and confidence in responding to your baby’s needs.

What age are the classes suitable for?

IAIM baby massage classes are suitable for babies from birth to around 12 months old. If your baby was born prematurely or has any medical needs, please feel free to get in touch before booking so I can discuss what would work best for you and your baby.

What happens during a class?

Each class includes:

  • Guided baby massage techniques
  • Time for discussion, questions, and shared experiences
  • Songs, gentle interaction, and bonding time
  • Learning more about your baby’s cues, communication, and development

What should I bring to class?

Please bring:

  • A blanket for your baby, as they may feel a little cool after massage
  • Nappies and wipes
  • Baby food if needed
  • Anything that helps your baby feel settled and comfortable

Baby mat, towel, class materials and massage oil are provided.

What should my baby wear?

Babies are usually massaged in just their nappy so they can enjoy skin-to-skin contact and move freely and comfortably. Clothing that is easy to remove is helpful, and the room will always be kept warm and cosy.

What if my baby cries or sleeps during the class?

That’s completely normal and always welcome. IAIM classes are baby-led, relaxed, and free from pressure or expectation. You are encouraged to respond to your baby’s needs at any time during the class. Detailed handouts, weekly reviews, and spare dolls help make it easy to catch up and learn the full programme at your own pace.

Can partners or other caregivers attend?

Partners and additional caregivers are welcome, depending on space availability. Please check when booking and I’ll do my best to accommodate everyone.

Is baby massage suitable for babies with eczema or sensitive skin?

Yes, in most cases baby massage can still be enjoyed. Please let me know before the class if your baby has any skin conditions, allergies, or medical concerns so we can discuss suitable oils or any adjustments that may help keep your baby comfortable.

How many sessions are included in the course?

The IAIM baby massage programme is usually taught over 5 weekly sessions. This gives parents and babies time to gently and gradually learn the full routine in a supportive and relaxed way. Rather than rushing through a full massage in one session, we focus on a different area of the body each week, building towards a complete routine while following your baby’s pace and cues.

How do I book a place?

Places can usually be booked online, by email, or by direct message.

Can I cancel my booking?

I understand that life with a baby can sometimes be unpredictable. Bookings can be cancelled with a full refund if at least 7 days’ notice is given. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be offered once the course has started.
